Train Wreck in Progress (TWiP)

Some of you may have found this already, and many of you probably have never heard of it.

In the broadest sense of its existence, it is a podcast.  In a not so broad sense, it is a podcast about things that people seem to talk about all the time, yet never tell any (go figure that one out).  This podcast was started by my colleague and good friend, Elizabeth Kennedy Bayer, when she realized after we completed our masters degrees at ASU that there is a ton of things that no one ever tells you about your intended profession while you are studying to enter said profession.  It is her intent to discuss these issues and ideas, make them available to the public, all the while helping to promote these artists as much as possible.

This podcast is called Train Wreck in Progress, and is lovingly referred to as TWiP.  It is acknowledged that the acronym TWiP is rather common, but the competition is… of a myriad of different niches.  When you google it, the first thing that pops up is This Week in Photo, a neat site and podcast dedicated to keeping up with what people are doing in photography (amateur and semi-professional from what I can tell, but I could be very wrong).  The next TWiP to appear is This Week in Petroleum (talk about a niche site!  People actually regularly look at this thing?).  To be fair, it is a government-run site through the Department of Energy, but still…

Continuing down the list, you’ll find many things similar to This Week in Photo:  This Week in Photography, The World in Photos, and various critiques of those sites from Flickr.  The one that stands out as odd is This Week in Parasitism… again, a very niche site that I feel not THAT many people visit (but again, I could be horribly wrong).  The list continues, but if you search very carefully you will stumble across the newest definition for the TWiP acronym (and as stated at the beginning of every TWiP episode):

“Train Wreck in Progress:  a podcast dedicated to artists in the middle of a new and challenging project.”

What’s cool about this podcast?  You get to hear interesting people talk about interesting things!  These are people you may not hear from or about on a regular basis, but they are creative, exciting, inspiring people that have just as much if not more to say about their craft than those in the limelight.  Past interviews include Jeff Newton (photographer and commercial director), Adam Pinti (actor and playwright), James DeMars (composer and conductor), and James Woodward (composer and children’s book author), among many others!

Additionally, TWiP has just been accepted to iTunes and will be available for subscription and download early next week!  Just search for Train Wreck in Progress.  It would be really great if the word could spread about this new and exciting podcast, and, if you are a creative person (regardless of your field) and you have something exciting to tell the world, please get in contact with the TWiP Team!
